Fire belly newt hasn't eaten for a week at least.

He shed his skin around a week ago. How long does it take for him to start eating again? thanks!

Alright, here's what she replied:

It could possibly be going into just a winter slow-down. The majority of reptiles this time of year will do so. Not to worry..

when i had my newts, they ate so little, (from their total lack of metabolismn) that i wondered if they were starving! I wouldnt fret ...mine ate meal worms and wax worms and an occasional cricket (when they could catch it) 3 times a week...id buy those sinking shrimp pellets also which they seem to enjoy...although very cute, they arent the most active animal to watch thats for sure

She probably means Shrimp Pellets Formula. They are just little pellets that sink, I believe the most popular brand is Wardley and come in an orange colored can.

newts dont eat everyday ..they can go a few days as they arent moving much..to feed them everyday, would make a huge waste of food in your tank ..or at least thats how it was for me years ago....
