soft shelled turtles

does anyone know where to buy a soft shelled turtle in Michigan (specifically around the metro-Detroit area). I am very interested in them and set up a tank for one. My biology teacher has one that he caught 15 years ago in Florida, and I love it's unique look and behavior. I know all of it's requirements and currently have another turtle that I nursed back to health in a different tank (RES about 7 inch carapace). What price do they usually sell for? I can't buy them online, but I did find some babies for $15 on Kingsnake.com. Is this a normal price? I'll see if the local pet supplies plus can order me one, because they take excellent care of their animals and give me great deals on livestock for my freshwater tanks (I am a great customer). I've never seen a sick fish or reptile at their store.

I have an idea, just give me a few days to confirm that they can get a soft shell turtle.

there is a pet store in Lansing called Preuss Pets. I contacted them and they said that you need to contact them and place an order. Here is the website there should be directions to get to the store, Good luck.

never mind. I might go with an axolotl, but thanks anyways. It all depends on what my mom likes best, what I can afford, and how close it is (I can't drive without an adult). As for now, I'm getting nothing seeing as I just recently got 4 spring peepers, a wood frog, and a blue spotted salamander .

Axolotl's are awesome creatures, if you are looking for the weirdness factor then this your type of salamandar. LOL!!

blue spotted salamander , good choice... they seem to have their own personality and they're soo darn cute...! If and when you decide to get a soft shelled turtle.. you might want to find the state regulations on capturing/ owning this type of turtle. . . "Believe it or not you have to obtain a state fishing license to keep these lil guys... I believe you can find the rules on this in a State fishing guide cause they consider them game.. "meaning you can eat them" *who would ever do such a thing *

here is a link that you can refer to for state regulations not jus for michigan it refers to every state and lists all legal and illegal turtles..

I jus scanned over that link... and I was mistaken this was stated for Indiana...but the link is still interesting...

*Unlawful to collect turtles from the wild in Indiana unless the person holds a valid hunting or fishing license*
