I have always loved reptiles of all kinds. I would occasionally catch madrean alligator lizards and fence lizards in Arizona and observe them for a little while before letting them go. I had been instructed to never observe snakes in this way, which was good advice even though most snakes we came across weren't venomous.
My love of snakes and lizards had to stay in the wild, though, because while my family isn't squeamish around them, they just don't see these creatures as pets. I had been wanting a pet snake or lizard for a long time. But my dad isn't really an animal person. My mom is kind of an animal person, but she's not exactly a snake person. My dad is fine with our one dog, two cats and a few aquariums - he isn't really fond of my hamster or guinea pig.
I've got plenty of money to care for a snake, and I have enough room for a large tank. I would devote myself to a snake as much as I would to my fish and all my other pets. I'm also fine with feeding live food to a snake if I have to. But I guess I'll have to wait until I move out to get a pet snake. I guess I can see why my dad doesn't want one in this house. We've had quite a zoo for a long time, and snakes seem more "wild" than most of the other pets we've kept.
