DIY Reptile Cage?

I was thinking of making one out of wood and a sheet of glass. Here are my plans:

piece of glass, wood, saw, nails, mesh, staples(not the normal staplers but the staple gun kind).

First take a like 1x1 or 2x2 piece of wood however much long and make a rectangle. Then stretch the mesh over it and staple. Cut off excess. Next start to assemble the main part. Get the wood for the two far ends and saw(table saw) two slits about halway in each piece of wood and about 1/2 inch deep. Now assemble the wood(nail all the pieces together so you have the front that would face you if you looked at it empty.) Then just slide the glass in the slits. Put hinges on the mesh top created early and attach it to the base. Also attach a latch for the top.

How does that sound? I kind of made it up as I went along. Just an idea cause I like making things and I want a reptile now. =)

Thanks in advance,

Sounds good.
The only problem I see is heat retention.
This could be made not an issue by keeping temperate not tropical reptiles, such as anoles.

What qualifies as not tropical? So I can see what my options are. I am guessing chameleons and iguanas are to? Do you think there is a way tpo fix the heat retension problem?

Sure.
I will try to get some pictures of a couple of the reptile cages I have built over the years to you in the next few days.
