Refugium Forum - Hang On Tank Refugium. A refugium is used to grow macro algae and smaller organisms (like amphipods and copepods) for the animals in the main tank. You can also use the refugium as an algae filter. As the macro algae grows it uses nitrates and phosphates and you can crop the algae as needed. The macro algae in the refugium will help keep nuisance algae from growing in the display tank (if the refugium is attached to the main system).

quarantine tank help

I have a stupid question. I am new to having a saltwater tank. I know that I need a quarantine tank. I have been looking at refugiums for a quarantine tank within my 110 gallon saltwater tank. Is this possible since they will be sharing the same water? If not, then how can I use a refugium tank for a quarantine tank?

There is no such thing as a stupid question, if we don't ask, then how do we learn.
A quarantine tank must be a stand alone tank, that is not connected to any other tank.
If it was conneted to another tank then that would be the same as putting the fish in the other tank..

Depends on your setup. Do you have any photos of your refugium ?

Thanks for the help.
So, I guess I am an addict because I'd much rather look at the aquarium than tv...unless its Law and Order. LOL
