So I have been trying to get a Red Tail shark into the family tank. But it is not going very well it seems about every three days. The fish just plain dies. I have no real ideal why. In fact this is my second try but no luck. The fish was very colorful and seemed normal. The tank's a 29 or 30 gallon I sure but its close to that size. I have test the water of the tank as many here say that’s important and if this fishlore.com is right them my tank is fine. The only thing is the PH is sitting a 7.0. I readied that the Red tail likes a lower PH is that why they keep dieing? Also the tanks got 5 neon tetra and 5 lemons tetra and 1 other fish of the tetra family and 2 Zebra Danio. The tank was cleaned last week. I had a Red tail in the tank about a year ago and he was the King of the tank but he never was a real issue with any of the fish.
As far as Ammonia and nitrates they read 0. But I seem to have over looked the nitrites as I cant find a test kit around the tank so I not sure what that reads. The first red tail never got a red tail it was more pink then red but the second red tail was looking great very black and a very nice red tail. And yes I did get them from the same shop as only two shops I know carry them by me. The other shop seem to enjoy keeping dead fish in there tanks so we didn't even think of buying them.
