Relocating...

My mom suggested that I relocate my RTBS before she gets big enough to swallow my cockatoo cichlids whole.

So I have a question. I have a smaller tank that I can move her to until she gets bigger. Once she's large enough, would she be compatible with an Oscar? Right now she's abut 2 to 2.5 inches long. My neighbor (who is very knowledgeable about fish) has an Oscar and I was going to see if he would like my shark. She has always gotten along perfectly with my corydoras, angels, and cockatoo cichlids, but I know that as she grows she will likely get more aggressive.

How big do cockatoo cichlids get? Red tailed sharks only get to 6" long...

are you talking about a red tailed shark or rainbow shark? if so, they only get to be about 6 inches...they will NOT be ok with an oscar..it will be a snack eventually...your shark should be fine in your 55 gal if he has a cave and a place to call home

Cockatoos get to be 2.5 to 3 inches at most for the males.

Sharks may get big, but I doubt they'll want to have a munch on your Cichlids, mine's about three inches at the moment, and she's scared of all my other fish, so I as I said, I doubt your's will think that your Cockatoo Cichlid is a nice snack.
Good Luck

Good morning. Your red tail shark (RTS) will be much better off in your 55 gallon compared to your 10g or your neighbors tank with the Oscar. The RTS may be a bit territorial but it will not eat your cichlids. As stated above they only grow to 6 inches. Make sure the RTS has a little area that he can call his own and everything should be fine. He will guard his territory to a certain extent.
