Sharks a coward

Ok, so i have a tank with 4 angels, a small pleco and 1 guppy. I added a rts because i always enjoyed watching them, but this new fellow i named bob, is the biggest coward i have ever seen. He's about 2.5 inches long and is afraid of my little guppy! The guppy nips at his tail and chases him around, what gives?

He is new to the tank so they are probably establishing a pecking order. How long have you had him? you may not see your shark very much if there are places to hide, they are mostly noctournal and in my experience are very skitish.

awww poor thing...does he have hiding spots to feel safe? seeing how he is new, I agree with jack..the pecking order isnt established..or the temps could be too cool for him and he isnt acting himself..they like the warmer 76-80 ....guppies can be just as mean and can be very nippy towards new tank mates if they are protecting a female..and fems can be testy if getting ready to spawn......and I hope you didnt get the shark for his "agressiveness" ..in a 29 gal, the overstocked tank probably is playing a part in it also....

My RTS is not nocturnal at all! He is all over the tank at all times of the day; a lot of fun to watch. No one in my tank is aggressive towards him, but he sometimes chases my chinesse algae eater. I saw him pestering one of the pictus catfish today but nothing serious. Maybe yours in just settling in.

I have to agree that he just isn't settled. It may take some time for him to feel comfortable. When I added my Rainbow Shark I didn't even see him for a month and was afraid that he had jumped out. Then one day he just decided he was ready to make an appearance and now he's out a LOT. He still likes his hiding places though. Good luck. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Keep an eye on your angles, RTS aren't usually recommended as tank-mates for them...

My RTS is very shy, she lives in me heater compartment at the back of the tank, and only comes out to live in her cave when she's not in the room. She is a wonderful character, and although my tank is over-stocked due to my next door neighbour pre-owning it, she's amazing with all my other fishies.
