RTS with white on fin tips

Just wondering, my RTS is about 3 in. long and very husky. He looks very healthy with dark black scales and nice red contrast. He does have some white on the very tips of his dorsal and anal fins. Is this normal or could he be sick?

White tip on fins usually means fin-rot which the common thing that brings that on is poor water quailty. What are your parameter; ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

See that's good news!! I don't have RTS so I just learned something new today!!

Well, My RTS has the same coloration and she is very healthy... I believe some females get that type of coloration. Is she acting normally?

She is otherwise acting normaly. Eating well and chasing her 8 tiger barb tankmates. No signs of distress.

Mine has that on a couple fins as well. Not all of them as far as I can tell but a few.

Then I would assume that it is her normal coloration... and that it is a "she".

My RTS has white on the tip of her dorsal fin also. If it's a she, she's happy and healthy, maybe even a little too fat! I think its her natural coloring.

to kurtsshotgun and hydraRTS, if your water parameters are in check (0ppm ammonia, 0ppm nitrite, 5-20ppm nitrate), and you don't notice an raggedy or torn fins, then chances are it is just the coloration on your RTS and means that you have a female

I have had a red-tail for a while now. I assume it's a female, since she has a gray belly and the very tip of her dorsal fin is white. My water parameters are great, no torn fins, looks and acts perfectly healthy, so like my fellow Fishlorians, I have come to the conclusion that the white fin tip means it's a female.

This is a pretty old thread.
Be sure to check the dates before responding. I'm sure the issue has been resolved by now.
