Red Tail Shark tank size?

I was planning on getting a Red tail shark as my first fish, but since I live in a college dorm, the limit on tank size is 15 gallons. If it is the only fish in the tank, will 15 gallons be big enough?

Re: Red Tail Shark tank size?

There is some controversy on the tank size for this fish, but I would say that 15 gallons would be too small. These sharks can get to over 6 inches long, so my suggestion would be at least a 55 gallon tank size. Sorry!

Hey

Your right, there is controversy. I reckon trial it, if you think it's too small, sell him & get other fish, but I think it would be totally fine.

Re: Red Tail Shark tank size?

I have two red tails in my 55 gal. I got them only about an inch long and few months later now 3 inches and growing.... And they get along too. One stays on one side and the other on the opposite side of the tank...

*Sorry to steal topic*

would a Rio 125litre tank be ok for one? 39US gallons.

with 6 zebra danios...? I can get rid of the zebra danios, and replace with cardinal or neon tetras...

I think he would be fine and do well in a 15 gallon tank if he is all by himself, its just Better to have them in bigger tanks, mine is in a 29 gallon with other fish.

At one point in time, I had one in a 20 gallon with other fish and he was fine...territorial, but content.
