Red Tail Shark and my filter?

I have a red tail shark that I have had in the tank now for about two weeks. One day while I was watching all my fish I saw him swimming the current of the water filter. Then out of no where he jumps out of the water and goes into the filter, then he came out. He does this about 4 times a day. Is this normal, and what does this mean?

this could be just an excercise thing, but I think you should consider filling in any gaps he can fit through. My Rainbow shark jumped out of the tank while doing that, but I didnt know until I found him dead. Block off the outflow with a large pebble, and make the spillway in the hood of the tank very small by blocking it off with glass, plastic, just something to cover up the hole. Or just cover the spillway with a soft mesh, like a fish net mesh.

My red-tail used to do the same thing. Once she got bigger she stopped doing it. I never saw any harm in it. Like TFA said, maybe it is just an excercise thing.

You seriously need to stop this behavior! An injury is just waiting to happen, and it will encourage him to jump. Sharks are excellent jumpers and don't need any encouragement. You need to block every opening, no matter how small or he'll be gone.

The only place the shark even ventures to the upper regions of the tank is near the filter. She liked swimming in the current when she was younger. I guess she has grown out of it because she hasn't done it in quite some time.
