red tail shark

hi anyone
would love to own a red-tail shark but dont think he would be compatible in my tank. I have tetras, platys and 2 angels who all seem to be getting on great. would the addition of a red tail destroy this community, and if so, can anyone suggest an alternative fish similar to a red-tail?

thanx

ok. so i wanted a red tail shark also and then i found out that it would eat my neon tetras. then i kept looking and saw that the rainbow shark looks just like it and it doesn't eat my neons. i've had him for a little over a month now and he's just fine. they look excactly the same except the rainbow shark has all red fins.
oh and what size tank do you have? cuz they need at least a 55gal tank (the rainbow sharks). i have mine in a 75gal.

I don't think that I would recommend them since they don't go very well with angelfish. They also tend to be very aggressive and territorial with fish smaller then them. When he's only a little guy you might be ok but they're not little forever and I've read a lot of posts and things about people who've had to remove their red's and put them into a separate tank after a while.
But like I said I'm fish beginner, I'm just letting you know what I've found out.

true true true....both rainbow and red tail sharks are very aggressive. and i've also heard of people who had to remove them from their tanks too. i have mine with tiger barbs, longfin rosy barbs, cherry barbs and neons but he's fine there and i've also heard of other poeple who have them with neons. it really depends on the shark. sometimes you get a real mean one and sometimes you don't. i don't really know how the sharks would do with angel fish though so maybe someone else can give their opinion.

thanx for your replies regarding red tail sharks, so what about siamese fighters? Would they be ok?

Please don't put a betta in there. He's liable to be torn to pieces by the angelfish, and/or may attack your tetras and platies.

Bettas aren't good candidates for most community tanks. They do better with bottom dwellers who are in no way competition to them.

Well, take the male platy out to prevent babies. You DON'T want platys breeding!

Other than that... I think you are stocked as it is!
