Why aren't RTBS and Platy compatible?

I've read that they aren't compatible, but it seems like they would be. What am I missing here?

I have had great luck with red tails as they have little or no aggression as the name implys only an erect dorsal fin. (they are actually a type of bottom feeding catfish) I have succesfeully raised them with cichlids to molly the only real concern is that they are egg eaters. So it would seem to me that livebearers would be great tankmates. Just take precautions. Hollows and hiding places are recommended. Only one Red Tailed Black Shark should be kept in each tank as they are intolerant of their own species

Thanks Taku --

My juvenile RTBS is swimming around with 4 Platy larger than him at the moment. I'm hoping that if he matures with them it will work. I know he may change his mind later though. It's a 37 gallon tank and I only plan to add one more fish, a Paradise fish, so it should be roomy...I hope. If the shark reaches the upper end of his potential size the Platy may need to be moved because it seems like a small tank for a 6" fish. Hmmm, or maybe I need a new 55 gallon for my little shark!
