My red tail shark is chasing my tiger barbs around the tank when ever I feed them or when I first come into the room. How do I get him to calm down when he is chasing the when I feed them?

It's really an incurable thing. Red Tail Sharks have an aggressive personality, and they will nip the fins of tankmates whenever the chance is availbe. You cant really stop this, but there are ways to reduce it. Trying adding a cave, or making one out of cleaned river rocks (dont use soap, but hot water and a clean rag), this will give your shark a place to retire and the aggression should only occur when the barbs are near the cave, and since your 30 gallon tank is fairly large, your barbs should have enough room to swim without crossing paths with your shark too often

I agree with TFA101 its hard to stop it (they are aggressive) but there is a way for you to make a cave or buy a fish accessory that looks like he would like it, something with holes so he can go in and out whenever he wants. Hope i helped

Tiger Barbs usually get along with RTBS, but I think the 30 gallon is a bit small. Also, if you don't have enough Tiger Barbs (they like groups of 6), then they may be insecure and not their usual semi-aggressive selves. The shark may attack just be cause he senses that the Tiger Barbs are vulnerable.

Be careful when adding rocks or anything else from the great outdoors. Some rocks contain limestone which could kill fish. The rocks may also carry parasites, fungus, bacteria or contaminants like fertilizer that don't necessarily clean up with hot water. I make sure my rocks do not contain limestone and then I brush and boil, brush and boil, brush and boil.....you get the picture. LOL, it's not uncommon to find rocks or driftwood boiling in my kitchen.
