New to Red Tail

Hey guys,

I have a tank that is cycling right now and has no fish in it yet. I really really like Red Tail sharks and Fishlore.com says in fish profile that they get to be 6 inches. How come they can go in a 10 gal tank. And what other fish can I put in with a Red tail shark? Will I be really limited if I put him in such a small tank?

Thanks in advance for all the advice!

IF you put this fish in a 10 gal, you cannot put anything else in with it. They are very territorial and get worse with age.

If you want to keep him in a community, you need a very large and long tank so he can have his territory at one end and the other fish can get away.

In small quarters, Red Tailed sharks can be absolutely relentless in their harassment of other fish - especially smaller one - and can cause the death of those fish.

My experience leads me to agree with Barbrella on this. As an alternative, I have found that red-finned sharks are less aggressive, especially with age.
