Red Devil Twiching HELP!

my friends red devil is twitching his head in a fast motion in his tank. the tank is a 55 gallon with an oscar, jack dempsy and an african cichilid. does anyone know if this is normal?

Doesn't sound normal.
What are the water parameters?
Has it recently gotten into a fight with any of the other cichlids?
Could there be something stuck in its throat?

I know this does not pertain to the topic:
but just a thought for the future - that tank is severly overstocked. And red devils get their names through their personalities. There should only be one of those fish in the tank. Not all 3.

Well, african cichlids have different water requirements than SA cichlids.

I don't know anything about RD's but twitching his head seems like aggression.

doesn't sound normal to me, have you noticed anything else wrong with him? has he been eating and swimming normally? any sign of disease (ICH, fin rot, parasites, etc)?

Maybe it has something to do with the tank being overstocked? Not enough room?

How large are they? To keep all three, your friend would have to have a 120 gal. tank, at least that.

Wow. Maybe the Oscar attacked it. That's food for an Oscar that large.
They really should be in a different tank, with the Oscar alone in the 55.

Well, your friend really should take everything except for the Oscar to a LFS. It's the humane thing to do. The Red Devil is called a devil for a reason.

I'm really not sure. Is it a violent twitch? Or is it more of a shaking? Is it rubbing itself against anything in the tank?

He's still doing it?
Is there any way that you could post a video?
I just read that this is a symptom of gill flukes, could that be it?
