losing color of my Red devil

Hi guys.....
Recently i've got a juvenile red devil with a black marking on his hump. But the next day he has lost his marking........completely vanished.
I dont see any signs of stress or anything like that.I have also provided him with nice hiding places and there is none in the tank to harass him.
Guys....i'm new to cichlid keeping and want some guidance from you ppl.
Thanx in advance.

My father used to have a fish like this (minus the black mark you speak of) and his devil slowly grew a bit pale. I don't really have an answer for you, except maybe give your devil some tropical fish flakes (if you don't already) most tropical fish foods are designed to keep vibrant color in fish.

HI, WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

Which tank is he in? You said there wasn't anyone in the tank that would harrass him, but if he has tank mates it is possible the tank water itself isn't ideal.

How long has the tank been set up? Is it fully cycled? What are the water test readings for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate?

I would suspect you need to do some water changes to bring down nitrates if this tank has been up and running with other fish in it for awhile. High nitrates will stress a fish to the point it will lose color. Good Luck

I have changed the water. The tank has been set up a fortnight ago.
