What mated with my Red Devil?

Ive owned my female Red devil for about 2 years now shes layed eggs once a month every month for the past year with out ever being fertalized due to the fact shes my only Red devil. Today i find her protecting 20-30 fry.... I find this odd because she usually forces all the others to one very small side of the tank any time she produces her eggs, Does anyone know who she would of possibly let into her love grotto? Her tank mates include 3 parrots obviously not the "father", Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, and Convict.

idk, but they'll be really cool looking babies...and if you don't have room, many lfs will pay you well for hybrids

what are the genders of the GT, JD, and C?

are they how old are they? (ex. wigglers, free-swimming, .5in)
are they showing any color?

...this might be something that you'll just have to wait and see...i don't think there's any way you can tell until they show color patterns

the experts will probably be on later tonite, check back every hour or so

It is entirely possible that it could be one of the blood parrots.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_parrot_cichlid

That page says it is speculated that part of the genetic makeup of the Bloodparrots is Red Devil Cichlids. Read through that and see what you think.

Thank you, I always thought Parrots were "mules" incapable of reproducing.. You learn something new everyday

You may have got some fish to breed that do not commonly breed, but if there are fry from egg layers something in the tank has to have crossed. Do you think you could post pics of the fry, and maybe update the pics as they get older each month? Perhaps they will give it away with their appearance.
