Ram Issues

Well I recently realized that the 2 rams I purchased in June are both males. They were juveniles when I bought them and unfortunately I think one of them is getting pretty aggressive. There are lots of hiding places and plants, but 2 males in a 26 gallon is tight. I noticed last week that a large chunk of the less aggresive male's tail, and tonight I see there is a huge part of his dorsal fin missing I'm worried about him so I'm moving him to my 10 gallon. I have 3 danios in there now. I realize that I'm going to be at max capacity in my 10 gallon but I don't know what else to do with him. He's in the acclimation process right now.

He seems to be doing much better in the 10 gallon. I'm only feeding brine shrimp right now because I want to make sure he eats a lot. He ate this morning, so thats good. I'm going to the LFS today to get some stuff like a small piece of driftwood for the 10 gallon, some more carbon, and possibly some peat if I can find any.

Those little rascal rams lol... I know just what you are going thru I also had a pair of males at one time in my 55 and they were always going at it.
But a good thing is that its amazing how fast they grow back their dorsal and tail fins!
Im sure your little guy who was less dominate will be very happy in the 10g now!

Thats really good to know! Poor guy needs as much help as he can get in that department. My boyfriend thinks I should find a female to put in with my larger male in the 26g. My first reaction was, "He is mean and doesn't deserve it!" but my BF made a good comment, "Yes he does, he is obviously the more sucessful Ram and in nature he is the one that would go on to breed." Hmm biologically I guess he does deserve a mate!

Yesterday I got the driftwood for the 10 g and it looks great. I'll get some pictures up soon. Recovering Ram seems to enjoy it, its got great hiding places. He's becoming much more active over the past 24 hours so I think he'll be fine. I'm a little sad he has to live in the little tank but oh well. Its better than being attacked all day.

Update: 10 gal Ram is doing ok. He dorsal fin looks terrible, though. I'm hoping that it was just dead tissue that has been coming off. It doesn't look like fin rot. He is not nearly as active/friendly as he was in the larger tank, which makes me sad. He used to come swimming right up to the front when I walked up but now he is terrified of me. The other ram that I kept in my larger tank looks magnificient. I really wish he wasn't so shy, but when he does come out he's breathtaking.
