gbr keeping dying. help

OMG.. i think i could never keep a GBR successfully. I do all good things, water changes every other day. good quality food. My discus are thriving and growing like weed. GBR just cant make it. they die within 2 weeks. I thought GBR and discus require similar water parameter.
only thing i can think of is that my water is about 7.4 - 7.6 pH. i acclimate using drip acclimation over period of 2 hours. they start off good. and then in 2 weeks, they just die for no reason. is it the ph?
ammonia: nitrite: 0, nitrate: 10, phosphate 0.05, water changes every other day.
any ideas?

I've never had a probelm with my GBR, he just gets stressed easily.

Considering your discus are thriving, then I'd look outside the aquarium environment. It may be that where you buy your stock from is of a low quality, intensively farmed, treated with hormones or hundreds of other horrible things breeders subject to fish.

I personally wouldn't say the pH is a problem. I drip acclimated mine, and my pH is upwards of 8. What are the nitrite readings, I don't think they'd be a problem at alll because your discus are fine.

I'd try driving out further to source your GBR's, make sure you know where they're bred and if they are subjected to lots of treatment.

Good luck!

If it makes you feel better i have the same luck. Can't keep GBR's alive to save my life, but never had a problem with a discus.

Online! aquabid is a good place to start. I always use priority shipping without any issues.

Are your rams eating? I once had a male ram with a pair of kribs and the poor ram was always hiding out at the top of the tank. The kribs were too terretorial. After they started breeding the kribs had to be moved to another tank.
