Do you mean a pair of bolivian rams OR a pair of GBRs? If you're really asking about four bottom-dwelling cichlids in a 16g tank, the answer is no.

In my opinion, that size is a bit small for one pair, but it might be possible... if the two fish you purchase happen to pair off. 16 gallons isn't really enough space for a less-aggressive fish to escape a dominant fish, so you would likely have problems if they didn't pair off.

No, I would get either one Bolivian OR one GBR. I agree with Mathas, the tank is too small to have one of each or a pair.

which one would you suggest becuase i have a medium well planted tank with dim lights one 6 inch long cave(roughly)(its a cannon shaped with fake algae and stuff on it) and another but very small maybe good for fry i have great water conditions and a elite stingray 15 filter and i have blue rocks sort of gravel

do you think i could get 3 rams of the same species like 1 male and 2 females i there or something

No, I'd stick with one ram only. Bolivians are easier to keep than GBR's, generally speaking.

The coloring on bolivian rams is less pronounced than that of GBRs, but a healthy adult is by no means a dull fish.

That depends on what you mean by active.

The majority of the personality I see from my rams comes from their interaction with one another... so in your case, with a tank size suited to one individual fish, they might not be as active as you'd want.

Maybe, maybe not.

As with most (if not all) cichlids, different specimens will behave differently. If you happen to purchase a territorial, aggressive ram, 60L is small enough that it might claim the entire tank as its territory and harass the tetras constantly for invading its space... or you could purchase a calm, passive fish that doesn't care what's around. There's no way to know for sure.

When my GB Rams paired off in my 30g, they became very aggresive, tormenting my DG relentlessly.

I had to move a Bolivian ram out of a 29 gallon once because the other one was picking on it. That tank is a lot bigger than yours and it still didn't work out, which is why I suggested only keeping one.

Sorry to hear it bolivianbaby. As with any cichlid, there are never any guarantees, huh!

It's funny. I was going to put one Bolivian in each of my 29's, but my daughter took Fido (the smallest Bolivian) and put him in her 20 gallon (that used to be mine).

I'm only getting one ram for my fifteen gallon, agression is a killer! I'd recommend the same, Bol rams aren't as colourful as the Germans, but just as active.

Hint-They should be mildly robust and colorful! If not, go to a different store. They'll lose color when you first bring them home, but after they adjust, they brighten up! Also, they should not be shy when you see them in the tank.

Hope this helps.
