got this from a website

Mixing with other fishes:

Ram Cichlids look best when keep in groups of their own kind. It is not recommended to keep them with other Cichlids, as their small size would mean that they will get bullied. Ideally, Ram Cichlids should be kept with fish that are slow-moving, as these fishes tend to hide if made nervous. Smalll tetras, barbs, and evenHeckel Discus fish can be kept in the same aquarium as Ram Cichlids.

Yes, that should be fine depending on your stocking levels in the 20.

Yes, but with 20 gallon, be careful of your GBR stocking. I had two bolivian rams (closely related) that one would stress out the other, so I put them in two separate tanks. Maybe one BN pleco (high waste-producers), some corys, and 1 GBR? I'm not saying that two GBR's couldn't be in a 20 gallon, but you may want to have a backup plan just in case.

Others may have had better results in a 20 gallon, so feel free to wait for others to come along and share their opinions and experiences.

GBR's tend to live in the lower portion of the tank. The only time that I have ever had aggression toward other tank mates, was when a pair spawned in a community tank. Some males do better with multiplle females, others only like to have one female. In a twenty, I would try 1 male and 2 females unless you can find a M/F already paired. I would also be prepared that you could have a M/F pair and then become aggressive to the left out female. I have only had one male that would not accept any females or males to live with him. He got along with everything else.

I like to keep my Rams with a school of either Cardinals or Rummynose tetras. I have also kept Rams with Angels, Discus, Clown Plecos, BN Plecos, Cory cats, Otos, Farlowella Cats, and Pearl Gouramis.
