| Please help sexing my Bolivian Butterfly's Hi,
I have these 2 Bolivian Butterflies, and was wondering if anyone can tell if they are the same sex or not?
The one witht the dwarf gourami in the back ground bites at the other one sometimes.
Any ideas?? Last edited by nitram79; June 3rd, 2009 at 08:43 AM.

| The fish in the top picture is a male, but I can't tell on the bottom picture.
Can you try to get another picture of that one? Most helpful would be a shot from the side, with the ventral area (between pectoral fins and tail fin) clearly visible and pectoral fins extended. |

| I dont think i'll be able to get the pic for a while. Is there any common behaviour to observe with having 2 males or 2 females or 1 of each, as the one in the bottom pic snaps at the other one when it goes near a certain area the bottom one is hangning aound at the moment |

Most of the time that's how my males act, but I've seen my females chase the boys away at times too. |

| the males are usually much more colorful and males also sport 2 spikes on the front of their dorsal fins. males are much more common than females. |

| Thanks mathas and bad wolf,
I'm guessing looking at your post on sexing them mathas, and the way they are behaving they are both males. I just hope the bullying doesnt get too much. He doesnt chase the other one all around the tank, just out of the area he seems to have claimed. Last edited by nitram79; June 4th, 2009 at 07:44 AM.

They aren't really aggressive fish, but they are territorial... once the intruder is chased out, they seem to stop caring. |
