'fraid my GBR may be on his way out...

my GBR is just hiding and not really doin anything. hardly has any color. breathing is pretty normal.

water parameters are good.

all the other fish in the tank are doing great.

any suggestions? i don't really have a QT available, it's in use. there are plenty of caves and hiding places in the big tank tho.

just planted some new plants, maybe he's just a little put off by the new plants. no other changes.

He is in my 41 gallon. Had him for about a week.

In with 2 gouramis, 6 blue tetras, and 2 otos.

Sometimes GBR are really hard to keep. I bought six a year ago, had a spawn and one by one the adults died except for one female and one fry. Don't have a clue why. The one female and fry seem to be quite hardy. Sorry I'm not any more help than that.

just tested water. all parameters are perfect. nitrates are about 15/20.

water does look a little cloudy, but i don't know why.

I'm really sorry about your ram not feeling well

I recently got a couple of GBR's. I was reading up on them. It was said that if they're imported they may have been given hormones to enhance their color and make them look more mature. Don't know if that has anything to do with their hardiness or not.

The fish store had a sign on their tank saying they weren't guaranteed because they are so sensitive.

he died. it's just so sudden with the little buggers.

well, maybe there was something with one of the plants that bothered him. or maybe they had crappy stock. i kinda was hesitant about gettin either of the rams that died from there. they didn't seem like the best. but it wasn't like they were near death either.

and i also think it is ridiculous that "replacement" fish don't have a warranty. just seems like they are pushin some pretty crappy stock.

Hello.

I'm sorry about your losing your GBR. They are beautiful and I've heard they have a lot of personality. If you go online and do a search (someone here may be able to give you a website, but unfortunately, I can't), maybe you can find a breeder close to you, maybe someone who breeds for fun? They might have healthier stock than a pet store and maybe you could have better luck

Just a thought.

Sorry to here about your GBR dying. I have kept and successfully bred GBR's for the last few years. Even with my experience, I occasionally get new stock which act very much like your GBR. The absence of non-vibrant coloring indicates stress, and in my experience some GBR's die from being too stressed. While I try to keep my nitrates lower than <10 in my GBR tanks, I do not think that would be the cause of your little Ram's stress. Sometimes they just seem to do this. Keep trying, these little fish have awesome personalities when you get some good ones.

How long were they in your LFS?

With Cardinals and Rams, I like them to live at least a week in my LFS tank before I take them home. My LFS (a really good one), will let me know if the batches have been hardy, and on more than a few occasions have told me not to buy the ones they have.

What was the temp in the tank? (I may have missed that)

Last, was the fish eating and what type of food?

last eating frozen bloodworms. tank temp was 80.

i wish i could find someone around here that breeds them. they were in the LFS for 2 weeks or more. but i'm done with that LFS, they only warranty their fish for 48 hours...like TO THE HOUR. and then if they do decide to give you a replacement, it has no warranty and you can't pick which fish!!!
