| How much trouble am I in?? A lot I fear... Soo....my father decided that he needed t stop by Wal-Mart today for some reason or another...so I wandered down to the fish section. I'm looking in all the tanks, when I see a little tiny Ram flash by in one of the bottom tanks. I look closer, and sure enough there are a few little Rams in the tank. So I asked the woman working there were they new there, and she said that they were the fish of the month- only available in April. She told me there were 6, and that she'd had them for a week & no one wanted them. So, I asked how much they were. $3.84 each - but if you buy 3, I'll give you the other 3 free. Now could I really pass that up?? So they're acclimating into my 20 gal. right now. I moved everything from my 20 gal. into my 55 gal. I'll start another thread about how overstocked I may be....
So, long story short, I have 6 Blue Rams in my 20 gal. now. I hope they all make it (fingers crossed) and I hope I get at least one pair!! |

| They're all still alive this morning. I did a WC last night in their tank - just to be safe that the quality is pristine. They didn't like it, but it's something they'll have to get used to anyway. |

| They're VERY sensitive fish, and not recommended for a newly cycled aquarium. That's why I'm not nervous about keeping these fish alive. |

| They're not colored up yet, but they're all still alive! I guess that's a start. What does everyone feed theirs? Mine never come up off the bottom of the tank, so I'm worried that they're not eating. |

| If they are the same as Bolivians, mine eat flakes that have fallen to the bottom, Algae wafers and occasionally shrimp pellets. |

I've been trying for months to keep them in my 55g (which has been up for almost a year). I have good luck with the females, but the males have been tough for me to keep.
Best of luck to ya...and awesome deal!!! My LFS sells them for like 8 bucks a piece. They have great personalities and mine are super active.
Like the rest of FL...I'm off to walmart ;-) |

| Just FYI, the fish of the month isn't the same in Wal-Marts everywhere. The FOTM here was some kind of eel or something like that. |

| Well, I've lost 2 Rams, I have no idea why.
I moved 2 to my 55 gal, one died and the other has some sort of fungus(?) on his top fin. So I moved him back to the 20 all by himself. I moved the remaining 3 into my 55. It's really discouraging that they're dying, it's all ofa sudden. |

| I'm sorry Amanda. GBRs are definitely a tough fish to keep. From what I have read/heard/experienced, the Males are prone to Gill Flukes (at least the couple that I've had, experienced it).
The females I have picked up seemed to have been hardier, but still end up being very sensative.
Out of the 2 pairs that I've had, I'm down to just one female.
I suggest paying attention to their breathing and at first sign of troubled breathing you may want to consider medicating.
PM wot_fan. I know he picked up a good gill fluke med for this GBRs. |
