Morphed Bolivan Rams

I was at a ma and pa LFS the other day...I really neat one I might add. The owner was super educated and they run a very nice clean buisness, even QT their fish for 2 weeks before displaying them for sale. So anyway they have a tank not labled and I'd never seen a fish that looked like this one, close but not identical..So I ask and it's a morph of a bolivan Ram. They use selective breeding. Their body's were round like Angelfish. They were absolutely adorable..If I would have had a twenty of bigger I SOOOOO would have bought them. They were beautiful and very cute. Active little things too.

I've seen those in my LFS as well...but having "real" Bolivian Rams, they just look like a strange mutant fish to me, lol.

I don't know if they are as hardy/healthy as regular BRs either, so that might be something ou would want to ask prior to getting any.

Yes, I did ask if it effected their health..He said no....His mom and dad have a bunch in their aquarium that have been there a long time and he said they do great. But I'm sure their can be problems just with any altered fish, parrots, flowerhorns etc..

I believe they're called Balloon Rams - and are a mutant breed.

Mutant breed or not, that is one very attractive fish. If you feel that your LFS is reliable, I'd say GET THEM!!!

To be clear, those are a selectively-bred strain of german blue rams, not bolivians. As such, they would probably have the same sensitivity/acclimation issues that many GBRs seem to face.
