Im going to have baby GBRs!!!

Well just got back from work today after a longgg day grabbed a beer and sat down in front of my tank. Did a quick head count and didn't see one of my male GBRs, peaked behind the driftwood and saw EGGS!! That's right about 100 little white eggs in a group on a flat spot on the backside of my driftwood and there was the male keeping watch!!

I can't believe it I'm super excited and will keep you posted as the days go by. I have done my research over the last couple weeks in anticipation that this might happen. Wish me luck...

BTW I will post pics , unfortunatly I can not load them directly from my phone to the website

update - day 2 - got home last night and checked to see how parents and eggs were doing they happen to be in the process of moving them from the driftwood to a pit they had dug out in the gravel just below where they had laid their eggs. both parents are taking turns guarding their stash and keeping everyone else away when one is guarding the other is out patrolling the area, lots of fun to watch. still dont have access to a computer to post pics will do that asap

I have not posted in a couple days. Shortly after my last update the eggs disappeared. The eggs were most likely unfertilized and eaten by one of the parents. Naturally I was disappointed, but hope lives again.

Last night before turning off the lights I noticed the same paired rams fiercly defending their territory, chasing off every fish that came around their driftwood. I looked where the first batch of eggs were laid and saw another group!! Not nearly as many as last time but still probably close to 100. Hopefully the male can get it right this time and have fertilized the eggs. They do not look white like last time which is a start. I will post pictures later today.

Until next time...

I have had all 5 rams for 3 weeks now. I have 2 paired couples with a lone female. This is the pairs second time in 2 weeks. The other pair hasnt laid eggs yet but they were certainly frisky last night before i passed out. Maybe in a couple days, they seem to be cleaning one of the pots frequently...

They will become better parent with time and experiences, no different from us,LOL!
How about breeding tank for them with chemical free flower pot on its side or slate and some rock work?
Not necessarily on GBR, have seen other Dwarf cichlids/cichlids eat their eggs when under constant/too much pressure defending their clutch.
Congats! Hope better outcome next time.

I have flower pots on their side, and my piece of driftwood is pretty flat. I have seriously considered a breeding tank. I just acquired a 55 gallon for free just need to replace the top trim/frame due to a cracked center brace. I would turn the 55 gallon into my show tank and the 45 into the breeding, just have to get the funds together. t

As far as an update all eggs are still there. A few have turned white but the rest are still semi clear. No sign of wrigglers yet.

Best of luck with this new batch Ledzeppman, I love the GBRs and miss the ones I had in my tank. I really hope they make it this time for you.
