german blue ram cichlid sick

Hello everyone. I have a german blue ram that I have had for a few months. We just did a major water change (about 35%) and rearranged the tank, and now he isn't doing so good. he hovers around the surface of the water, and he has white stuff enveloping his tail. has anyone ever seen this before? the tank is a planted tank and the rest of the fish are doing fine.

GBR are more sensitive then most fish. can you post a pic and also a list of your ammonia, nitrites and nitrates for us that would help a lot.

Mike

Also Welcome

Mike19 is right, GBR's are really sensitive to changes in water parameters. Did you add anything to the tank that wasn't there before?

Welcome to fishlore
Sorry to hear that your GBR is not doing well. They are such great little fish, and are wonderful to keep in a tank. It is hard to say right off what can be wrong with the fish until we have more information to go on and as Mike posted it may be a good idea to see a photo of the tail before we help diagnose what the problem may be. But it does sound like some kind of fungus going on. Hopefully with more info someone here may be able to help you out.
Best of luck with your little one

Whenever something goes wrong, first possible thing to do is run test for at least pH, Ammo, nitrite.. Since very difficult to determine exact cuases/reasons, idea is to eliminate the possiblities with issues we have control over.
35% WC is not a major water changes but with rearrange made, possible you may have disturb the tank too much. Again testing can reveal if so.

IMHO, GBR may have developing symptom before the water changes but again it is only my assumption.
If the results of testing are fine, first thing recommended is to isolate the sick. If Q/T is not available, simple DIY may work in case of emergency.
Use large clear Plastic Jar, secured to Rim w/ Clean Plastic Clip. Place tank water and few gravels. Figure out the volume so can proportion out the Med. Run small, coarse air stone in the jar. This can be used as Q/T. Make sure to replace water in jar w/ tank water since small volume can foul fast, especially if fed.

As far as Symptoms, Can you post test results and pics? This can help alot in assisting you.
