What's more better is you can put rams, and gouramis together!!
Rams are friendly, and one is good enough for a community tank.
At my pet store they have baby fishes and they keep a ram in with the small ones.
I have rams with my angels, and dwarf gouramis. I have small Australian Rainbows, and a large rainbow
Also, when I was talkin to Big Al's people.. they said get
RO water, and then get angels, and rams then... you put cardinal tetras

it's a great combination, and nothing wrong will happen.
You just need to have soft water.
If you don't have soft water, then the rams won't work for you. They reside in mainly fresh soft water.
If you have hard water. I suppose African Cichlids are you best choice, and maybe some hardy fishes like plecostomus, and some black skirt tetras along with glow light tetras
