from what ive read its not recommended to have 2 males in any size smaller than a 30 or 35 (cant remember exactly). im not sure how well a species tank would do, but it might do okay because the harassment would be spread around.

maybe someone on here has had a blue ram species tank can offer some more info..

6 to 9 GBR's in a 29 is asking for trouble. I would recommend a pair or 1 male and 2 females with some type of peaceful dither fish. I prefer one pair to a tank as it has been my experience that the second female often gets bullied. Cardinals, Neons, and Rummy Nose tetras (Ram temp is at the high end for them) all make wonderful dither fish. Cories will work with Rams, but if they spawn, the Cories will get the eggs and also get beaten by the Rams in the process.

the reason i want the blue rams all species tank is because of there looks and i want them to spawn. i have read of people doing all species tanks with the german blue ram and they say they mark there territory only when spawning and will do fine together.
keep posting because i need help.

The general rule is one pair per 20 gallons. In a 29g, you would push it with two pair. You may get lucky, but the males may also fight to the death.

Yeah, I'm with dking on this one..

remember, even though they are peaceful cichlids, they are still cichlids. Males are very territorial.

i had a 20g before, and 2 males by accident. They quarrelled the first 2 months, then one roamed around 3/4 of the tank, and the other was stuck in the corner behind the driftwood. if he came out, he was attacked right away.

In my 35g I have 6 glowlight tetra, and they look pretty nice together. But most other Tetra look good with the Rams. Most fish do better when there is a dither fish, it shows them that its safe to come out. But I just looked at my tank, and my glowlights are hiding in the plants, and my Ram and Angel are out swimming around... haha silly fish

I have kept the males together in a 55g and they still went after each other. I agree with the other posters that keeping more than one male ram in that 29g is looking for trouble. If it were me, I would only go with one male and two females and once you find a mated pair, I would move the odd one out to another tank and leave the pair to spawn since you want to breed them.

They will for the most part get along except when spawning, but problem is when they do spawn it's trouble for all the other blue rams. You would have to seperate just about all the other blue rams from the spawning pair.

Yep. I had 1 male, 2 female. the pair spawned, and the next day the 2nd female was dead. as soon as they look ready to spawn, get that other female out ASAP!

Cichlids might be *******s, but gotta give it up for them on there parental instincts. (Many humans can learn a thing or two from cichlids)

I male and three females . the males usually fight for territory unless there is a lot of space to get out of each others sight.
