Gold Ram with Bump on Head?

Hi all!!! We have a peculiar problem with one of our new tank mates! We recently picked up a pair of gold rams at a local fish auction, and the male appears to have a bump on the top of his head that has formed since we've had him (1 week). When we picked them out, there was just what appeared to be a coloration difference. The bump looks like a white pimple, really (gross, I know!) but it is not fuzzy and is definitely not ICH. It is located in the middle of his forehead (right above his eyes) and is about the size of half of one of his eyes. It looks solid and is completely round. It has gotten bigger on the fish in the week that we've had him. Could it be a growth of some kind? And is it something that will need treatment?

The fish has a wonderful disposition, and the pair stick together when swimming in the tank. He eats well at all feeding times, and besides the visible bump, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him. The pair together are active swimmers and complement each other nicely. We really enjoy watching our pair swim around, and we really don't want to lose him. I've never seen anything like this on a fish before (will try to upload a picture soon)! Our water quality is the same as in the aquarium info, and I'll be doing a water change tomorrow. Thanks so much for all the help from the forums, and I'll look forward to hearing what this might be!!!

Ok...sorry for the long delay (vacation) - I now have pictures!!! He still seems to be doing fine, and the bump isn't getting bigger as fast as it was when we first noticed it. However, there is another very small bump that looks similar right in the middle of one of his sides (couldn't get a picture of that one). Here he is!

My only guess is that it might be some kind of fungus, but I'm not sure. He seems to be doing fine without any treatment, but if I need to treat him, we'll move him to the quarantine. Because he's paired with a female, would we need to move her to the quarantine too?

Thanks always!

i think it is a fungal infection. No you dont need to move both fish, just the infected one. treat with "Rid-Fungus". It works, and it's "O-Natch-oo-Rall"

... umm its "o natural". it has all the fungus fighting ingredients, without the harmful effects

It's been a week since we moved our male into the quarantine tank, and he's getting much better! I think it's still going to be about a week more until the fungus is taken care of, but I'm glad to see that he's improving! However, the female gold ram that was paired with the male also developed a fungus, so into the quarantine she went! However, it appears that the two are no longer paired...the male is chasing the female quite a bit, where as this was never an issue before. Is this temporary, or is the pair broken up now?

re arrange their old tanks decorations n things then put them back in together when they are feeling better...see if that helps ...he probably took over the QT tank as HIS and putting back into a new tank might help them repair up ...goodluck and glad they are doing better!

Well, I just gave them their medicine, and the male ram is looking much worse today!!! His eyes are popping out a little (one is worse than the other) and the spot on his head that was healing up looks like it's back the way it was before we started treating him! The tank is due for a water change tonight, so I hope that helps...
