Im new to german blue rams so do not have a lot of experience with them. BUT I have been doing a lot of research. Since my PH is very low, at 6.0 and soft water, the rams are a perfect choice. So I can say that the requirments for the rams is a low PH. Your 7.5 is higher than they like. Will they do ok in that water? I really cannot say... tho I know that a lot of fish do adjust to the tanks PH, and some do not. I will wait til others with rams can answer your question for you, to find out what their PH levels are.
I love rams too.. and I hope that you can find some rams that tolerate the higher PH.

I was just looking over my list of rams that I had, and what the PH level requirements are and found a few that would work in your tank.
  • Cockatoo dwarf - PH 7.5 (3.5")
  • Bolivian Ram - PH 7.6
  • Parrot - PH 7 (3")
  • Panduro - PH 7 (3.5")

I know my GBRs are doing fine in water with a pH of 7.0-7.5 and the water being moderatly hard, but would probably do better in the lower pH and softer water. Most of the GBR you get at the stores today are tank bred and some have a better tolerance for the water chemistry of the 'common' person nowadays.

I have a Bolivian Ram in water with a pH close to 8!! He does just fine in it, as do all the other fish. The water here is that way naturally, and the lfs I buy my fish from also has higher pH, so it works out for me. I also have some corys, an angelfish, 7 zebra danios, and just introduced 2 oto's to the tank last night! They love eating our algae!!!!

Good luck with getting some rams!!! They're excellent fish!!

I got a pair of GBR's a couple of day's ago and they are gorgeous! I was so excited when I saw them in the shop as I had wanted some a while and not seen them anywhere, hopefully they will pair off and breed

My tank is around 7.5ph and about 8 for GH... I don't remember exactly on the GH.. It may be higher.

I have had my GBR's for about 4 to 6 weeks and they are doing very well. The temp is 78.2 to 79 degrees depending on whether the lights are on or not. My Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate readings are always 0 using the API test kit. The tank is moderately to heavily planted depending on who you ask.

I would personally say that they are easy to care for but for some reason they are very intimidated by the school of Neons I have in the tank. I dunno why but the GBR's get very very dark when they are in close contact with the Neons.

My GBR's where in fact tank bred by a local breeder with very similar water params to what I have listed above. I would suggest a reputable fish store that gets their fish from local breeders. That will just increase your chances for success.

I have a pair of German Blue Rams in my 29gal tank with pH of 7.6 and they're doing well considering it looks like they've grown alot in size since I got them, especially the male, and the colours are nice and bright too.
