Rainbow with cardinals

is it ok to put cardinals with a rainbowfish?

What type of rainbows were you thinking of getting and what size tank where you going to put them in .I am not sure about cardinals and the bigger rainbows ,i have baseman's and reds the baseman's grow to about 4" and the reds to about 6" and they love live food, they only have small mouths and throats but they love to eat crane flys that get in the tank which i thought would choke them but down they go ,so i would not put cardinals in with my adults the same way i would not put neon's in with angels .Do you live in the US if so i have a good site that sells good quality rainbows .

I have cardinal tetras in with 5 assorted rainbows, and they are fine. All have been happy cohabitants for over two years, never lost a tetra. The rainbows are full sized, and are peaceable with all tank mates. I love a colorful tank, and these both fit the bill.

Boff, what was that site you are talking about that sells good quality rainbows? Always looking for ways to add to the tanks, the unusual that others around here don't have.

I just spent about 3 hours on that site, it's great. Do you know if folks ordering are satisfied with the service? I was especially taken with the Peacock Gudgeon. I want some!

They said it was OK and the quality of the fish was excellent, especially the Baseman's which still had there wild colour unlike some fish that you see in shops .Those Peacock Gudgeon do look nice would you get a new tank for them or put them in your community tank .

I am in the process of setting up a new 125 gal tank, and would put fish from existing tanks in new one. I want a breeding tank for them that would have maybe only otoes and corys in it besides the Peacocks. It sounds like the fry are so small they would be at risk for quite awhile!

One tank I currently have has Rainbow Platys, the 5 new Dwarf Neon Rainbows, and 3 panda corys. I fed the platys some blood worms the other day and the DNR's tried to eat some, but they were to large to go down their throats. Which leads me to believe that if the platy survive a week, they might do ok with the rainbows, BUT the Peacock fry are SO small I am sure even a fish as small a DNR would just gobble them up....

I e-mailed The Fish Shop and they WILL ship to Alaska, which is good news! So after the new tank is up, I'll order!
