A photo of one of my large new males in the 29g tank
I also bought four more rainbows. This variety has more yellow in it than the others that I have in the 55g that have more red on them.

Hi Kate like your new bows are they sliver under there lateral line and yellow above, its going to be interesting to see how they look when they grow up ,talking of growing up i found this on a rainbow site its quite interesting .
Rainbowfish, for the most part, are slower growing than most other fish. They can reproduce at a young age, but will still continue to grow until they die. This is why there is a Max Size range that they can achieve listed. In summary, the smallest number is the "average" size a rainbowfish will attain if it lives for a year or two. The larger number is the size the fish can attain if it lives longer than 5 years. If there is only one number indicated, then the fish is relatively new to the hobby and an upper range has not been recorded as yet.
Of course, care and environment will play a big part in just how big the fish will get.
For your Melanotaenia splendida it says 5-6".

HI Boff, thanks so much for the info. My new guy that the photo is of, is yellow above the line and some silver below with yellow in the tail fin. He is very large, right now he is about 2.5 -3inches in length.
More info will be in the thread I started under Rainbow pregnant.. so not to use the "rainbow photos" section for this...

Hi Boff
beautiful bows! What are the two with the horizontal stripes? Are those boeseman as well? Your reds are gorgeous! How old are they before they start to get the characteristic 'hump'? How large are your reds now?
Love your blue background! (I am using a solid black background on mine, answering one of your questions you asked me ).
Gorgeous! So glad to see you in the forum again !

Hi Kate thanks, the two with the horizontal stripes are Melanotaenia Herbertaxalrodi or Yellow Rainbow which are about 2.5-3" long . I have been trying to get a good close up of them but you know how hard that can be .You can see one of me new boesmans in the second picture on the left near the bottom .The characteristic 'hump' on the reds is a sign of age my biggest one a about 4.5" long and about 2.5" deep a big boy i posted a picture of him on another site and someone said i should show him the other one i about 3" long and about 2"deep .When i get my new tank i am going to use a dark gravel with a blue background which should show of there colour more .

Pic of Duboulayi rainbow
Kate here's a pic of a duboulayi. I have 2 of them in my tank. 1 is a male & 1 is a female I think, have to wait & see. Not the best pic but it's not the worst one I've taken eather. The Duboulayi aren't that easy to get here, & there smaller than the normal rainbows.

Very nice Duboulayi Suer. I recognize the red dot near its gill. Your Duboulayi should get to about 4 inches when they mature. I really enjoy the personality of these rainbow fish, and they really have a lot of color variations depending on what part of Australia they come from. Your Duboulayi should show a lot of nice color when it matures.

I hope so. There still very small in size even they have grown at least 3 times as big as they were when I got them.

rainbow fish pic's.
Here's some bow pic's. I'll post more pic's as I have 13 different kinds of the rainbow fish, & I have good pic's of everybody but the herbertaxelrodi & I haven't taken a pic of him yet as I just added him to my 120 gal tank last week. To start with these are pic's of my bosemani, I have 5 in my tank. The ramuensis I have 2 males. The sentaniensis -1 male, & my parkensoni-1male
