I just finished adding the last fish to the tanks, after an hour long acclimation.
I received today, shipped from Jakarta, Indonesia, through one of the
LFS, an order I placed last Wednesday: a shipment of Glossolepis incisus (Red-Salmon/Irian Red Rainbowfish), Melanotaenia Lacustris (Lake Kutubu/Turquoise Rainbowfish), and Iriatherina werneri (Threadfin/Featherfin Rainbowfish). I requested all to be juveniles.
The thing is they came with a bonus: 33 instead of 30 G. incisus; 32 instead of 30 M. lacustris, and 104 instead of 100 I. werneri. Only one specimen of I. werneri arrived dead, at most three seemed stressed and spent sometime behaving oddly but are now merged with the group.
I'm keeping the G. incisus and M lacustris together as they grow before I split them to their respective species only tanks. The Threadfin will stay in a species only tank all the way.
I'm keeping lighting limited for a couple of days, will start feeding tomorrow evening. Few things (other than work) get me out of MLB (game 5 of World Series), I can tell you, it didn't bother me a bit going out at 930PM to the LFS to wait for them as they made it from the airport.
I've experienced high mortality rates with young adult specimens, let's see how it goes with juveniles. My prior experience with juveniles turned out well.
