ID my Rainbowfish

I just got my first two bows ever and I have know idea what they are. I bought them from a LFS from a tank labeled assorted Rainbowfish. Found another LFS that had identical looking fish which were labeled "Royal Rainbow". However I find no info while Googleing under that name.

My best guess would be Bosemanis.

I agree with Butterfly as well. It will color up more as it acclimates and matures in your tank. Very nice... congrats on your new fish. I love the rainbows, they are IMO a great community tank fish.

They will be more active and color up better in groups but since the Bosemani gets several inches long you can't get many in the twenty gallon tank.

Really? I have seen Bosemanis and they look nothing alike (as far as color). I actually chose these at the LFS because I didn't want the obvious Bosemanis in the tank near by. Unless these are a different kind I am unaware of. these are a deep orange (almost red) with hint of green half way towards the snout. Also has a darker horizontal line. They are about 4" right now, guessing they will hit 5-6". 20 gallon? They are swiming in my newly established 50 gallon. I plan on a few dwarf bows (4-6) later on down the line.

other inhabitants of the 50gal:
6 albino cory
1 BN pleco
2 SAE
2 ghost shrimp
medium planted tank filtered by a Rena XP4

My head is spinning a little after some research. I found another "ID my fish" thread on Bowheads.org with a rainbow thats dead on look alike as my two. The folks there seem to have ID'd it as Glossolepis dorityi.

FYI if you care: http://bowheads.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2309

It could be, but I didnt notice any blue in the photos from the link that your fish has. Its hard to tell for sure, but I'd say its pretty close. Any new photos you can add now that your fish have acclimated to their new home?

Now it is spining even more. It is definitley not a g. doritiy. From what others have told me on another forum it is most likely a Hybrid of some kind. Apparently very undesirable in the rainbowfish community. here some pictures from tonight

If you are not into selling your fish, I wouldnt worry about the 'hybrid' of your rainbows.. They are gorgeous and unique! Could be a mix of a Red Salmon (glossolepis incisus) or a Lake Tebera (melanotaenia herbertaxelrodi)
Since your head is spinning anyway, here is another rainbow name to look up. Its called: Parkinson's Rainbow. Melanotaenia parkinsoni. A south Eastern Papua, New Guinea.
Description has it:
Parkinson's rainbowfish is an unusually colored and patterned fish in which a sparkling bluish base color is liberally mottled in yellow, gold and orange in the posterior half of the body. The same yellow, gold and orange extends into the unpaired fins. A red form is also avilable.(quoted from my fish bible: 500 freshwater aquarium fish by Greg Jennings.)
Even if you never find out exactly what type it is... you still have some great looking Rainbows there.

Kate- Yeah I have no intent on selling fish. I have kept tropical fish for some time when I was younger and never thought that Rainbows were interesting until recently. These fish are refreshing to the every day tetra or gourami
