Australian Rainbows

Could they be aggressive? Since I got them I lost 1 neon tetra, 1 cory, and 3 guppies....

Hi Stradius
I have had my A. rainbows for almost two years with all kinds of fish in the community tank to include the cardinal tetras. I have never experienced any aggressive behavior towards any other fish in the tank. My guys pretty much just hang out with each other all day. I do know that I have read other posts where folks did have problems with them and said they were aggressive and attacked their other fish. It really surprises me to hear this but I guess it can happen.
Sorry to hear this is happening to you.

I keep Red Salmon/Irian Red, Turquoise/Lake Kutubu, and Boesmani Rainbowfish with Neon Tetras, Mickey Mouse Platties, Fancy Guppies and Bronze Corydoras. Mine are as peaceful as they can get. However they need a school to behave as usual.

Which species of Rainbowfish you have? how many of them? I assume your tank is fully cycled and your water parameters are healthy.

hi Stradious
Sorry to hear that you lost more fish. I was wondering what other fish do you have in the tank and what size is your tank? I notice my rainbows never seem to sleep, they are always swimming all over the tank even at night.
But as I posted before, I have never seen aggression from them and I have had all kinds of species of rainbows in that tank from time to time.

wow.. I am amazed at hearing of the aggression from folks rainbows. I have mine with an Angelfish too and they ignore it.

With any aggressive fish, I would also move them to another tank, best to be on the safe side.
I noticed on your aquarium info, that your rainbows are in a 20g tank. they may not have enough room and the cause of the aggression? My guys are in 55g tank and maybe that is the difference?

Size of tank and number of Rainbowfish will make a huge difference. Mine zip all over the 75g and don't bother the angelfish at all.
Stradius- how new are the fish you lost? could they have been sick? Have you seen the Rainbowfish be aggressive? sorry for all the questions.
