Hi all,
I just bought some neon tetras and in the space of 1 week, half was gone... I never thought it would be my red rainbow which was eating them... I saw it hunting them last night as soon as I switched the lights off... I never thought rainbows would go on the hunt for smaller species... Is that normal? I'm thinking about getting rid of it now...

Ive had the same problem with my rainbows.I lost all my neons,and was really surprised.I have rasboras, and they are ok though.Have been for years!

Generally by all accounts, rainbow fish are very peaceful. Unfortunately you and Tilly have had bad experiences with your rainbows and I dont understand why but it is a terrible thing when we have an aggressive fish in the tank that eats the smaller fish. Since you have seen your fish attack, I cannot assume it was an angelfish that did the damage to the neons, which they could. I have cardinal tetras in my tank with the rainbows and have never seen any aggression, not to say I guess that it can happen. Im so sorry to hear you lost your neons.
