Mixed Shoal

I am getting 2 red rainbows and 2 boesemans rainbows. Will they shoal together or live seperately? Do they each need their own cave? I can't find answers to these questions online elsewhere.

Thanks,

Beeboy

Re: Mixed Shoal

They're midwater fish and probably won't use caves. They probably won't shoal together, and you need 5 or 6 of each one if you plan to have them at all.

Good luck

Re: Mixed Shoal

Hi i have 2 reds 4 baseman's and 2 banded .They don't shoal together like Chief said but they do like the company of other rainbows .If you can you should get all the same type then they will act more natural and maybe breed, have a look at this site its excellent .

Re: Mixed Shoal

Thanks for the help. That site is awsome I wish I found it earlier. It is too late to get all of the same species. I ordered them online two days ago and my tank will already be overstocked. Maybe if my neons get old and die I can get some more rainbows. Thanks again.

Re: Mixed Shoal

Yep its to late i don't think they will take them back ,but you could get another tank if yours is coverstocked ,by the way what size is your tank because the Reds will grow to 6" .
That site is great it makes me want to get more tanks so many nice fish .

Re: Mixed Shoal

I'm sorry but that is going to be to small ,the Reds need a 4 foot tank as a minimum where they grow to 6" long and 3" deep.A good Rainbow tank needs to be wider than taller because they like to cruse horizontally .
