Hi, its took mine about a year to look like this ,but it does depends on lots of things like .
How many you have and the ratio of males to females.
The size of your tank.
The quality of your water.
The food you feed them .
And there general happiness .
Has anyone out there besides myself had problems with these fish getting injured? Two times now my fish have sustained skin injuries where they get a gash, that is deep enough that it won't heal. I was in my LFS the other day, and in their large desplay tank they had a B. Rainbow with the same problem, what's going on, are they just extremely thin skinned?
Boff- do both the male and female of the Bosemani Rainbows get those fabulous colors or just the male? and what kind is that fabulous rainbow in your avatar?
I have three Threadfin Rainbows(Iriatherina werneri) in the 75g. I want about 9 or twelve and am adding them three at a time. right now I believe I have two females and one male.

Hi Butterfly ,the males are the most colourful but the females do look good as well ,adult females have the colour of subordinate males .The rainbow in my avatar is a (melanotaenia trifasciata) or wonga creek ,there are about 20 different colour types but i have 2 of these ones and cant wait until they are adults .
I would love a have a tank of threadfins ime so jealous 12 would look great and give you more chance of them breading .mark
I really like Rainbows and the variety. It fascinates me that the same rainbow from a different river or creek looks slightly different.
Boff- the Treadfins are the only top water fish n the 75g so they have plenty of room and they are a little small right now. I can't wait until they grow up

Hi carol ,over the last year of watching my bows i find them amazing ,with there colour changes like when you put in live food they flash colours down there sides ,and my reds go from bright red to dark red in a flash .
It is fascinating that some bows can be so different in colour depending on which river they come from ,i think this is why so many people love to keep them .
Were you going to put bigger bows in with your Treadfins ,because i read some where that the bigger ones will chase smaller verityes .mark

No, I thought I would just have a good size school/shoal of Thread fins. When I get 12 in there I'm going to wait until they are grown to see if I need a couple more to fill the school out or if 12 is enough. right now there are two males and four females and the two little males flare at each other every time they swim past each other. It is really funny because they are so small

Yep 12 is a good number when most people only have 3-4 ,with that amount you will see them act like they do in the wild which is good for them and good for you to watch . Ive seen some good pictures of males sparring and they do look good and it does make there colour more intence .mark
