Fat shark?

Well, I have read just about everything about the rainbow shark that I could find. Granted the list is always evolving so if there is info that covers this please throw me a link or help me out....but here is the situation.

I got my little rainbow shark last Saturday (9 Aug 08)(2.5 inches long) the wife named him "Pumpkin". Got him home and adjusted him to the tank and released. As I had read about the little guy before hand (and to accommodate other fish) I have a fairly well planted tank (water wisteria and hornwort) and a nice plastic log for him to hid in and around.

After he adjusted to his tank mates he started eating...and eating....and eating and eating.

The thing is that I haven't fed him (sinking algae discs) that much just that he is at every feeding eating. Now the little guy has a gut and I am worried. I know with my betta that when he gets a gut that I can just not feed him for a day and things work itself out.

Should I do the same thing, change diet, remove pumpkin and get a smaller tank to control his "diet" better?

I thank you for any advice and so does..."plump"kin

Are you sure that 'he' is not a 'she' in a state of 'pregnancy'? 'Starving' your fish for a day every now and then is not a bad idea anyhow. Their energy requirements are probably quite low when compared with their energy intake anyhow. Some keepers even reccomend a one to two day 'fast' every week, but I enjoy watching my fish eat so much that I don't do it myself.

I fasted the tank for a day and everything went to a normal state. I looked at his anal fin and it is outlined in black. Which, I "think" is the sign of a male. After watching this guy for the last couple of weeks, I think that the shark is just a little pig in disguise. He is just an eater!! But all is well in the tank.....thanks for the response.
