dwarf puffer "pea" fish

i was wondering. My pea puffer that i just got was 1/2- 3/4 a inch. i was wondering if my filter is ok for it. my tank is a eclipse hexagonal 5 gallon and it came with a bio wheel filter... do you think the current would be too strong for him...no? i only got one...so hes the only fish in my 5 galloon . some people are saying they like brackish waters other say they dont? and the guy at big als say they like flake foods.

Re: dwarf puffer "pea" fish

I'm sorry to tell you this, but they are STUPID--er.. misinformed.

Dwarf/Pea puffers are 100% FRESHWATER. They will not eat FLAKE FOODs! They need Frozen bloodworms and "pest", "pond", or "ramshorn" snails. These are those snails you find on plants that everyone hates. You should register here for better help www.dwarfpuffers.com/forum

Re: dwarf puffer "pea" fish

i think the current should be fine, but you'll want to observe your puffer to see that it's not being pushed around by the current.

some places have puffers trained to eat flake, but i think that's done by starving it until it eats. it also doesn't always work, possibly resulting in a dead puffer. there's plenty of other things you can feed your puffer. worms or snails are your best bet.

dwarfpuffers.com is also a good place to check out

Re: dwarf puffer "pea" fish

Yea with a 5g hex, he should be able to learn the currents and all. I heard the same 'brackish water' thing too, but part of the mis-information on these cute little guys. If we weren't needing 2 more tanks for new bettas, we'd have gotten 1 or 2 of those little dwarf puffers saturday, i love those little guys & would love to see pics of yours if you have any to post.
