Freshwater and Brackish together? Say whatttt????

K so went to pet store today hoping to find new buddy for my brackish tank. It's 90 gallon with 2 very young GSP's and tons of plants so was hoping to find new fish to sneak in there with them. I was looking at their selection of brackish, which was about two fish, both of which would eventually become GSP snacks. So the store lady asked what i needed told her just looking for brackish fish and didnt see anything suitable for my tank needs. She then said they keep salt in all of their tanks to a low end brackish level of around 1.005-1.010 and she said of any of the freshwater fish could go in a brackish tank. She went on to say the salt makes even the freshwater fish healthier and builds greater immunity to disease. Any one gonna vouge for her? This is first I've heard of this. I pray shes right but I just don't think so. And yes I know GSP's get huge and are aggressive but I still think with enough room, plants, and being introduced at earlier age they can co-exist with other fish if stay around same size.

Some freshwater fish will do well with a little salt, Guppies and Mollies for example, but not many. Loaches for example don't tolerate salt well at all. Some Guppies would probably do well in your tank, that is, until the GSP destroy them. I'd stick with the Puffers if I were you, unless you can find another brackish fish that can stand up for itself!

haha yeah i wouldnt bet on either mollies or guppies lasting very long. if freshwater fish could go in slight brackish i was thinking along lines of larger tetras, rainbow fish, barbs or something of that nature, something that is peaceful but large enough to defend.

There are brackish rainbowfish but usually pricey, hate for them to become a puffy snack.
As far brackish fish with GSPs, I've seen people keep scats and monos with them, though the salt content is higher. But as always with puffers, a risk.

Yeah Monos was what I was looking for but couldn't find any today. Scats have never been in this area so won't have any luck in finding them. Will they mess with bumblebee goby's? They didn't have any of those either just curious.

You could add 1 more GSP to a 90 gallon.
