Vegetarian puffer?

This morning I woke up to see Elton running around with a huge snail sticking out of his mouth. Haha, it was so funny. He was worrying that thing like a dog does with a bone. And then tonight he's running around with a chunk of duckweed in his mouth! LOL! This guy is so cute, he just cracks me up!

I was thinking maybe he got it caught on his teeth, as they are getting rather long (these guys teeth grow a mile a minute, even with snails...) Gonna have to trim them soon... not looking forward to that.

Hello Pink. Great picture and beautiful fish! Curious, how will you trim it's teeth?

I have an anesthesia called Finquel that I'll use to put him under, then trim with cuticle clippers.... I'm not looking forward to it, but I'll have to do it eventually.

Pinky. are you sure you want to use such sedative? What kind of food are you feeding and what kind of puffer is this??

btw, due to cooler temp in nyc this year, only went to water once 2 weeks ago where children pick uo about 1/2" long puffer, just like what I kept and released, along with 3 more yellowish/dull golden seahorses. I am hopping weather warm up more before Summer is gone. This puffer is in 2-1/2G and doubled its size in two weeks, No competitions for food. It is the fastest and most boldest among its tankmates as of now. At first it was so tiny, it almost looked like an cubicus which I loved the most among Box.

He gets MTS snails every day (as well as the regular puffer diet that my other puffs get). He's a South American Puffer (C. asellus)
Everyone that I know who keeps them says that they have to be trimmed regularly, even with daily snails.

Do understand teeth grows pretty rapidly. Although never had pleasure keeping this species but one thing I know is that they dont get their teeth trimmed at dental clinic in Amazon on monthly basis.

when you say you feed MTS, you dont have constant supply of MTs living in same tank so puffer can knock itself out whenever it wishes to do so?

set up another tank/Jars by the window sill to raise MTS or other snails.

How about rubbing frzen food onto dead piece of coral such as plate, galaxy, etc so it can pick food out of coral which may assist in grinding down its teeth.

Just a thought!

I have MTS living in the tank as well as in other tanks that I have.
I really have no idea how they keep their teeth down in the wild. I wish I did. But I haven't been able to find that information.
I'll look into something to put his food on. I sometimes feed on clam shells, but rubbing it into something is a good idea!

The problem is that when I got him his teeth were already severely overgrown, so it's hard to reverse that
