Roommate's snail explosion+trip to lfs+newly cycled tank=Take a Guess.

Oh boy, My roommate likes snail (go figure) and now his two tanks have snail carpet for substrate and I have a just cycled 5gal. that I was planning to do a small neon school in, but when I went to my LFS, guess what I found. I now have a dp that's about the size of my pinky nail. He(she?) seems to love hanging out in the corner of the tank watching what's going on about half the time, and the other half I can't find the little bugger. Pink put the idea in my head about puffs, but I had totaly forgotten to even ask about them at the lfs, and the when they were the farthest thing from my mind they pop out at me. Little buggers are fast for having such stubby little fins. so any way, I was wondering if there's any kind of snail that's bad for dp's? (Roomate's got pond's, apple's and ramshorns, all breeding like crazy) Just wondered, I'd heard that apple snails can actually kill fish trying to eat them by closing the fish's head in their shell and wanted to know if anyone had any expeience with this before I try to feed them to my puff and end up getting it killed. thanks for the info!

One snail I know, mayalsian trumpet snails, are not suitable for food since their shells are too hard - they can damage a puffer's teeth.
I'd start feeding the dp little pond snails, they should be the right size and aren't all too hard to crack open.

Hi: the ramshorn and pond snail's should be fine for your puff but the apple i believe would break his/her/ teeth as Jgon mentioned lol. good luck with them Also you can try b/w's and brine/shrimp lol 2-out 3-they may eat. i am lucky i guess mine eat all 3. bella

Congrats on the puffy! For sexing, watch the stomach. If you see a line down the length of the belly, then it's a male. But sometimes it takes a while for it to show up. I just found out that my Ambellina is actually a male.... and I've had her (him) since February.

I don't know if I can change the name... I mean I've had... him... for over 3 months already.... lol
If I do change it, it will be Claudio. But we may just pretend that Ambellina will work fine
