Hm... I think it depends on where you get them. Mine were about $3.50... or maybe $3.99... But they should definitely be under $10 each anywhere you get them

That's good. I can't afford expensive fish right now, but 3-5 dollars should def. be fine

The Dwarf Puffers are so cute, they are a little shy at first. I have had mine for a few weeks now and they are starting to trust me and finally got to see one attack a snail! That was an exciting mile stone in my book with them!

I paid $4.99 each for my two.

Got the tank today and set it up at my work The tank was already cycled, so when I picked it up from the person who sold it to me, I drained the water out, and put the filter media in a tub of tank water. I drove the tank to my work and set it up. Everything is running great. I am wondering if I should add fish today, so that the bacteria don't die or if I should wait until tomorrow. I have always added fish right away to seeded tanks, but I want to get everyone's imput on this....

Shoot, the one thing that I forgot to bring to work with me....... Would it be really bad if I added the fish today?

Here is a pic of the tank so far. There is no background yet (I'll probably add one tomorrow) and I want to add more plants too. Its a work in progress.

I don't think it's bad...

Looks like fun! More plants are always better for DPs

Yeah, I am picking up some more plants tomorrow from a guy that was selling some on craigslist (java fern and java moss). I would just go to the fish store on my break and get some fish food, but seeing as I really don't need any because I have a ton at home, I would rather not spend the money. I was thinking of picking up 3 DP's and letting them get used to the tank and then adding another two plus a BN pleco or some otos in a week or so. How does that sound?

Dang it......I am a bad girl

I went to the LFS and my favorite fish guy was there. Well I ended up bringing home 5 DP's and a BN pleco since he gave me such a fantastic deal ($2.50 per DP and $8 for the BN). Then as I was looking at the plants he showed me a bag of corkscrew vals that they had just gotten in. They were gorgeous! He gave me the whole bag for 6 bucks So needless to say my tank is now fully stocked. The DP's are no bigger than 1/4 inch and my bn is 2 inches so the bioload won't be too much, i don't think. They are acclimating to the tank right now. They are to small to sex, so I am gonna have to give them unisex names. If I end up with more than 2 males, I will have to trade some out at some point. Anyways, I'll post pics when they get settled in. Now I gotta think of names

Hey Pink,
Do I need to feed my DP's aniti parasite food for the first week or so, or should I just wait and see if they need it?

It's your choice. I haven't had IP problems with any of my DPs, but plenty with all my other puffers. Not sure if I was lucky or what. I got them from two different lfs. It certainly wouldn't hurt though. I'd suggest getting them to eat first before you try meds on them though, they can be quite picky.
