Snail Farm

I am planning to get a dwarf puffer for my daughter in June.

The tank would be a 10gallon planted tank with only the one puffer in it.

I have been trying to research the foods that I will need to have for it, and I had a question about snails.

1. Which kind of snail are best for the dwarf puffer?

2. Does anyone have a small tank that they grow snails in for their puffer?

3. If there is such a thing as a snail farm tank, what would the setup look like?

I am starting all of my research now, because I want to be prepared!

Thank you,

If you would lke a fantastic snail farm there is one sure fire way to have a TON of snails. You cannot get rid of them fast enough with this method. I will give you the secret...........
Put me in charge of cycling your 20 gln tank. NO it wont ever cycle but you will have more snails than you can even imagine.

I have a snail breeding tank. It's a 5g tank, and I have a few male fancy guppies in there to keep things interesting, since they don't eat snails at all. I just make sure to drop in some algae wafers and such for the snails. They gather around the wafer and have 'meetings'. It's hilarious. I have some java moss, ecocomplete substrate, small heater, Whisper internal filter, and a small cave ornament. But really you can go with the bare minimum and it'll work just fine. Some snails do like to have plants to lay their eggs on though.
Pond snails are my favorite for puffers, since they stay very small. Ramshorns are also good.

Thank you! I will start the tank up soon, so that I will have a good population when the time comes.
