Hydrometer Bad ReAding ??

hi; i keep getting a 1.010 for a reading as i am doing the salt that i would like at 1.002 what am i doing wrong> that is from the tap and the bucket lol please help bella

Wait, your tap water is measuring at 1.010?
Rinse your hydrometer off multiple times with warm water, then try again.

ok, Pink-the gravity is 1.012 now and the salinity is 18- what happened lol and i hardly added any salt to the bucket lol and the make is instant ocean?? going to rinse again and try again lol thanks back in a minute. bella

Mix the water up really well and let it sit for an hour or so to let all the salt dissolve so you can get an accurate reading.

ok, Pink-now i am down to between 1.004 and 1.008 gravity and salinty between 6-10 please help bella

Yep, definitely mix it well and let the salt dissolve. You want to wait until the water is perfectly clear just like regular tap water.

Pink- i want to put the GSP into his tank lol and can i until the salt thing is resolved? or he will be in the bag all night lol and he is relaxed now black gone and tail normal lol bella

Unmixed salt is an irritant to fishes gills... is it mixed up yet? Surely it should be by now...

For my salty tanks I take the water and mix the salt 24 hours before I put it in, I also put an airstone in the water to help w/ water movement to mix it good.

For puffy I gave him a cup full of my premixed salty water in his whole tank, I am going to work him up to the brackish water.
