| New GSP! Questions I just had an impulse buy, big time! I bought a GSP with intentions of putting him in a 30+ gallon brackish tank very soon.
Right now, I have him in a q tank to watch for sickness.
1. When do I need to start working up the salinity? I have marine salt (as I have a SW tank) and a hydrometer to measure it.
2. I have a "snail factory" going in my 10g to feed him, how many snails a week/day?
3. since they are wild caught should I get some internal parasite med for him and treat him profilacticly?
4. He is in a tank that is 9 months old, and very well cycled/cared for. |

| For number 3, a quote from PFP
"My favorite is GelTek's Ultra Cure. It's a liquid med that contains fish pheromones to induce feeding. It contains metronidazole, praziquantel, and flubenol, all great deworming meds. You feed it to them directly by soaking their food in it. This gets the meds right to where it needs to be and won't affect the cycle at all." |

1. When I got my guys, I did it immediately. Their bellies got brighter instantly
2. I'd say give him a snail at least twice a week. If his teeth are long right now then you might want to give him more than that for a while. Up to one snail a day except for in emergency situations.
3. Alex has you covered there. Another option is Jungle Parasite Clear, but instead of using it per directions, soak his food in it an hour before feeding and treat the water up to 6x. Also, Metronidazole is a good medication.
4. Yay!
Now where's the pics?!?!?!?! And what's his name?!?!?!?! |

| Thank you all, I am going to do a good water change tomm, then ad some marine salt to his tank. Since we aren't sure if its a girl or boy.... I will take a little while to name him/her...
Its d oing wonderful swimming and acting healthy... it attacked a small snail as soon as I put the snail in the tank, his/her teeth looked long so I hope it helps.
I will get some of the med for him/her asap!
Thanks!! |

| Haha, you can just choose what you want it to be. Garth and Stachi seemed like boys, always fighting over their food and stuff, so I say they're boys
Hehe, how cute! I love to see them hunt.
I suggest some ghost shrimp fed on algae or spirulina. That makes for a fun time for the puff and a very good meal
How big is your puff, by the way? |

I hope he gets settled soon! He is on my computer desk, and I plan to make friends with him fast!
Then he is going to one of my old brooding tanks (bigger tank). |

| Thanks.. he was more eagar to the snails than the flakes. I am going to thaw some bloodworms for the cichilds, I think I will give him a nibble as well. He is hiding in this "vase" decoration I got him to hang out in right now. I guess it makes him feel safe. |

| I'd be surprised if you ever got him to eat flakes, my boys won't touch them. Only the best for spoiled puffers |

| Oh, he snubbed them at first. He will have to get used to the variety, all of my fish are on a variation diet.
He has a snail left over, I put two small snails in yesterday so if he gets hungry for something meaty. |

| Hehe, yummy snails
Here's what I give my guys:
frozen: mussel, bloodworm, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp
freezedried: bloodworm, brine shrimp
live: brine shrimp, snails, ghost shrimp (fed on veggies)
I dose everything with Vitachem to make sure they get all their vitamins
And when they get bigger I'll be hitting up the seafood section of the grocery store
Any uncooked clams, mussels, shrimps, squid, octopus, etc will be mine |

I'm pretty sure she's picked off all the snails that were in there, and I've given her mussel and mysis shrimp. I'm not sure if she or the cories ate the last two though. |
