Tetraodon lorteti

From what I've read, you should keep them as a pair or better yet only one in a species only tank.

Here is the link I found. Hope this helps.

Do you mean the one that commonly goes by Red-eye puffer?
Can you describe what this puffer looks like?
Carinotetraodon are the smaller species of puffers, like C. travancoricus, the dwarf puffer.

it's not the dwarf puffer. Mongabay says it's around 2.7".

Yep, it's the redeye puffer.
And I didn't mean dwarf puffer... I meant a smaller puffer, hence the Carinotetraodon instead of just Tetraodon.
What'd you want to know about this guy? They're very very cute

I'm planning a heavily planted, cavey tank. Just wondering how they would do with a aggressive/semi-aggressive group. I have a little bit of space and looking for something interesting. I was following links and stumbled over these guys.

Hm... well, for puffers, instead of the 1 inch per gallon rule, it's more like 1 inch per 5 gallons. At least. Looking at this and other similar species it seems that they have a 20g bioload themselves. And they seem to be hunters/lurkers. If so, putting any other fish with them is very dangerous. How you can tell if they're a lurker is if they sit on the substrate most of the time. These puffers are ambush predators, and will attack anything that comes near them. Of course I'm not 100% sure if that's what these guys are.

Here we go, I found some info at the pufferforum
"When it comes to care about c. lorteti, it's the same as c. irrubesco, with one exception: the temperament of the fish. C. lorteti is generally more aggessive than c. irrubesco. I would definitely recommend against keeping it with other fishes. They are bad at nipping fins, and probably would also kill if it gets the chance. It can sometimes be kept in pairs, but you need to be prepared to split them into different tanks if they get too aggressive. I've got a pair, and it seems like the aggression is increasing as they grow older, all though they've been aggressive all the time. A heavily planted tank is needed, both if you keep a pair, and also if you keep it single. C. lorteti is a semi active hunter, which means that it actively hunts for food (not waits for the food to pass it, like the lurkers do), but does not like to stay in open water anyway. It likes to hunt among plants and decor in the tank."
